Homemade Pizza Crust

If you’re looking for a no fail recipe for pizza crust or calzone dough, look no further. This one has five ingredients including water, mixes up nicely in a stand mixer, and produces a great crust that is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

For each large pizza, you will need

  • 1 packet of active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a large cookie sheet or round pizza pan with parchment paper. Pour 1 cup warm water in bottom of stand mixer bowl. Pour in packet of active dry yeast and let sit until it starts bubbling. In a large bowl stir together flour, salt and sugar. Add to water and yeast and use a dough hook to mix on low, scraping down sides until fully incorporated. Turn up to 2 and set timer for 6 minutes. Cover with towel and allow to rise.

Spread dough out to desired thickness, sprinkling with flour as needed to make it workable. Top with sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, pepperoni and whatever else tickles your fancy. Bake at 400 degrees until cheese is melted and crust is crisp to the touch. Crust does not brown too much, so use caution not to overbake.

I have formed the pizza crusts and baked them for five minutes till partially baked, then wrapped in plastic wrap and foil and froze. It’s a nice treat to have pizza crusts ready to top and finish baking on those busy nights that you don’t have much left in you!

Family tested many, many times, and always approved!

See you soon, friends!

I seem to really struggle to get my dough to rise when making pizza crust. Yours is a slightly different recipe to the one I’ve been attempting to use so next time I will use this one and see how I go. I have also been given tips on getting the dough to rise, which worked when I made dough for hot cross buns. So fingers crossed I get it right! The finished pizza looks yummy!
