I’m told it’s officially spring, and I’m starting -just starting- to feel like the sun may actually come back to upstate New York. Today I thought I’d clear the rest of the snow off the back deck. I had visions of patio umbrellas and cushioned chairs and iced coffee. Yeah, not happening. The “snow” is actually small icebergs that somehow hopped across solid land and took up residence on my deck. Hefty chunks of ice dusted with just enough snow to conceal their true identity and sucker in hopeful fools like me. And so my plans were foiled.
Inside the house, things are looking slightly more sunny and bright. A tiered copper tray holds a boxwood wreath and a collection of hand decorated miniature birdhouses that I made a few years ago.
The burlap runner came from the Target dollar spot. It was originally three dollars, but they were running an unmarked clearance sale a while back and I got it for fifty cents. Trust and believe I checked out and went right back over to the shelf and bought the rest. I was too sick for too long to get them all done up, but I already have plans for a summer one. For Easter, I found this pastel ruffled trim at JoAnn Fabrics on clearance.
The bench seat got some new pillows to add some softness. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted in fabric, but when I saw this pale gold bird fabric, I fell instantly in love.
Can I tell you a secret? I NEVER buy pillow forms from craft or fabric stores. Most of the throw pillows in my home are made from the cheap pillows at Walmart. They cost less than three dollars and you can compress them down to smaller sizes by making your pillow cover smaller, or keep them large and fluffy by making the pillow cover bigger. I’m a bargainista by necessity- I love to shop for things to make our home more inviting.
Our cabinet is dressed up for spring in a banner I’ve had for a couple of years now. I found it at Target. I have plans for a rectangular sign over the cabinet, but for now the wall is bare. That’s okay, because I’m still so very happy with the paint color that I don’t mind. I move a lot slower these days, and that’s working for me- it gives me more time to appreciate each individual step.
I’m working on brightening up the living room as well, and I’m looking forward to sharing those photos with you. You know what else I’m looking forward to? Iced coffee on the deck- go away, snow!
