Bookshelf Makeover

Well, the before isn’t terribly inspiring, it it? The bookshelf is a basic black piece purchased from a big box store. And I haven’t done much to dress it up.

But I recently found some plaid fabric that I liked for a living room project.

I removed the backing from the bookshelf and cut the fabric to a size that covered the backer with enough left over to wrap over the edges and glue to the back. I sprayed the backer with spray adhesive and smoothed the fabric over the adhesive with my hands. Then I wrapped the edges of the fabric around to the back and hot glued them down.

A few finishing nails reattached the backer, and I replaced the shelves and their contents.

Here’s the finished project:

While I was at it, I cleaned out a glass jar and attached a coordinating plaid ribbon. Then I filled it with treats for my beautiful Sophie. She watched this operation closely. Girl likes her treats.

The thing I like the best about this project is that I can easily remove the fabric and change the look when I’m ready.

What do you think? Do you have a bookshelf you want to update?
